From the humble garden flower to rare-looking blooms, artificial plant material creates a table centerpiece for any mood or event. Quality silk flowers mimic fresh flowers. They serve as a non-wilting, hypoallergenic option for table centerpieces, reducing the risk of irritation for guests who have sensitivities to pollen or fragrances. An artificial table centerpiece works as a relatively inexpensive and lasting decorative display for indoor or outdoor use. Rearranging artificial flowers in different arrangements and containers keeps your table decor fresh. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
- 1
Cut a brick of floral foam to create a snug fit in the container for your centerpiece. Use a knife to cut another wedge, if needed, to get a tight fit. The firmly wedged foam supports the artificial centerpiece.
2Insert the largest or most attention-getting feature of your artificial centerpiece into the foam. Stick the stem of a spray of silk orchids or other flower near the center of the foam. Put your elbow on the table next to the centerpiece with your fingers pointing up to the ceiling. Shorten the stem if needed to make the flower shorter than your fingers. This ensures the centerpiece won't block guests from seeing each other across the table.
3Cut the stems of other flowers and foliage shorter than the center flower. Push the stem of one flower at a time into the foam around the central flower. Create a classic shape, such as a dome floral arrangement, if desired. A dome arrangement has a rounded shape all the way around. Cut the stems of flowers shorter the farther you put them from the center of the display to create the dome effect.
4Add artificial foliage to fill out the centerpiece, such as leaves or ferns, to drape over the edge of the container if desired. Bend the wire of each stem to create a curve, the way plant stems grow in nature. Insert the stems for the artificial greenery between the flower stems near the edges of the container.
5Wire faux birds, butterflies, insects or toy figures into the arrangement. Wrap the wire attached to the artificial creatures to the stems of flowers, or use floral wire to wind around the bird's feet or the bodies of creatures or toys to secure them into the arrangement.
6Slip bits of sphagnum moss or spread glass gems over any exposed floral foam. This give the floral arrangement a natural or sparkly look.
