A butcher block table gives you a large area to work on when you need to chop, dice or cut foods with a knife. Completing these tasks on your regular countertops leaves scratches, indentations and other damage, so using a butcher block eliminates the potential for damage to the counters. To properly care for the butcher block, you must clean the block regularly and season it to keep the surface in its best condition. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
- 1
Clean the butcher block table after each use. Combine a cleaning and disinfectant by mixing 2 quarts hot water, 1/2 cup white vinegar and 2 tbsp. dish soap in the sink.
2Dip a cleaning rag in the soapy vinegar water, and squeeze out the cloth.
3Wipe down your butcher block table, rubbing with the grain of the butcher block.
4Dip the rag back into the soapy water, wring out the cloth and rub over the table again. Let the table air dry.
5Saturate a cleaning rag in mineral spirits, and wipe over the butcher block table. Again, wipe in the direction of the table grain, and let air dry. This seasons the table and keeps it looking new.
