How to Clean & Degrease a Butcher Block

Butcher blocks are used in many homes, as they provide a safe cutting surface for preparing foods, eliminating the risk of slicing into countertops when chopping ingredients. Since the butcher block comes into contact with a variety of foods, often raw or greasy, it is important to clean the butcher block after every use to prevent buildup and bacteria.     Wipe the cutting board with a cleaning rag soaked in hot water.

    Pour 1 tsp. of dish soap onto the butcher block.

    Saturate a cleaning rag with pure white vinegar.

    Scrub the cutting board with the vinegar-soaked rag. Work the dish soap over the entire board to degrease it. The vinegar will clean and disinfect the cutting board, killing any bacterial growth.

    Rinse the cleaning rag with hot water, wring out and wipe over the butcher block to remove the cleaning elements as well as any leftover residue.
