A centerpiece sits in the middle of your table as the central element of your dcor. Although it can be elaborate or composed of a large group of exotic flowers, it doesn't have to be, as any item can become a centerpiece with a little imagination. Pick up items in your home and make your own cheap centerpieces.
Egg Shell
The delicate egg shell becomes your vase when you place it inside an egg holder. Dye the outer shell of the egg to match your table linens or the accent color of your design. Pick a flower from your garden with lots of blossoms on one stalk, such as a hyacinth or hydrangea, and separate the blossoms into small sprigs. Put several of the sprigs inside the egg shell and group several egg shell holders together in the center of the table to create the flower display. You can also elevate the egg shell holders for more visual interest.
Ornaments
A compote, a long-stem dish that holds fruit, takes center stage as your vase for this centerpiece. Round, colorful, Christmas ornaments of the same color form a pyramid inside the compote as you attach the ornaments to each other with glue dots. To add height to the centerpiece, attach the ornaments to the tops of candlestick holders rather then using candles. Bring the color of the ornaments to the rest of the table in your napkin and votive candle color choice.
Succulents
Bring the desert into your home with a succulent cactus centerpiece. Three flower-shaped succulents nestle inside one large fishbowl, partially filled with dirt. Two smaller fishbowls contain one succulent each, tucked inside the dirt in the center of the bowl. The large fishbowl sits in the center of a rectangular table while the smaller fishbowls are off to the side. For this type of arrangement, position the cacti so the blossoms remain inside the glass of the bowl rather than above the bowl.
Supermarket Bouquet
Pick up a supermarket bouquet of flowers. Look for one that contains a large amount of baby's breath inside the bouquet. Remove the baby's breath and group them together into one white vase for a classic centerpiece for your table. Gather the other flowers of the bouquet according to their color and place them in small thin bottles or vases. Arrange the bottles in a semicircle around a compote of fresh fruit for a centerpiece arrangement for your table.
