How to Refinish a Food Service Butcher Block Table

If your food service butcher block table is in dire need of refinishing, a simple food-safe process is all you need. Butcher blocks are commonly seen on counter tops, cutting boards, kitchen islands and tables. Made by gluing several pieces of wood together, the versatile surface can be refinished time and time again. To keep the finish looking like new, treat your butcher block with mineral oil, and avoid excess water and harsh chemicals when cleaning. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    1

Smooth the surface of your butcher block using an orbital sander with 180-grit sandpaper. Sand the table going with the grain. This will remove imperfections, knife marks and gouges from the butcher block.

    2

Wipe the table with a damp cloth to remove any sanding dust.

    3

Place 2 ounces of paraffin wax and 18 ounces of mineral oil in a medium saucepan. Heat the mixture over medium-low heat until the wax melts completely.

    4

Paint an even coat of the wax mixture on the table with a foam paintbrush. Allow the finish to dry for 24 hours before using the table.
