A centerpiece completes the holiday table by adding a focal point to the tabletop. The Christmas season is often a flurry of activity so creating an easy centerpiece frees up more time for other preparation. Use items you already have on hand to save time and money this holiday season. Does this Spark an idea?
Ornament Centerpieces
Set aside a few ornaments while trimming the tree to use in the table centerpiece. Place glass balls in a clear glass bowl for an instant centerpiece. Use ornament balls in colors that complement the other place settings to tie everything together.
If you prefer flowers in your centerpiece, use the ornaments to add a holiday touch to their display. Place the flowers inside a small vase then set that vase inside a large clear vase. Fill in the space between the two vases with small ornament balls, candy canes or coil a colorful Christmas garland around the interior vase.
Candle Centerpieces
Candles provide a soft glow and an instant touch of sophistication to the holiday table, but on their own they don't do much to inspire the Christmas spirit. Instead of creating an intricate candle ring, repurpose an existing wreath to ring a cluster of pillar candles in the center of the table. Or, arrange three taper candles, in holders, in the center of a small wreath lying on the table. Decorate the wreath with ribbon, if it is plain.
A single large pillar candle suffices on its own, but needs dressing up before it works as a centerpiece. Set it on a large plain or holiday platter. Cover the platter around the candle with holiday colored candies, small ornaments or coil a garland around the candle base.
Creative Centerpieces
Brightly wrapped gifts add a fun and festive touch to the table. Wrap small boxes in bright paper and add large bows to finish them off. Group and stack three boxes in the center of the table for a stand alone centerpiece, or cluster small wrapped jewelry boxes around a plain candle or simple flower arrangement.
Small tabletop Christmas trees are readily available but tend to be to large or dense, which blocks conversations across the table. Create a simple tabletop tree with a length of artificial evergreen garland. Twine heavy craft wire around a length of garland, then coil the garland into the shape of a tree. Place a small star on top or wrap battery-operated lights around the garland to dress up the tree.
