Ideas on How to Create Birthday Centerpieces

A centerpiece spruces up your birthday party table and gives guests something decorative to look at. Centerpieces can be floral or non-floral, in whatever texture, shape or size that you want. Many people purchase centerpieces already assembled, which can become expensive. Making your own centerpiece can save you money, and allows you to be as creative as you like.

Flowers

Floral centerpieces are popular for birthdays, and can add a desirable fragrance to your party atmosphere. Browse around and look for flowers that catch your eye and work with the color scheme of your birthday party. You must decide how the party guests and tables will be arranged in order to determine the best design for your centerpieces. For instance, if you will have one long, rectangular table at the party, three to five small centerpieces will look better than one large one in the center. If you are having a few round tables at the party, you might want to assign one centerpiece to each table. The next step is to decide on your vase for the flowers. Tall vases allow flowers to be projected up, but you can also accomplish a low-and-lush look by purchasing short vases and keeping them full.

Balloons

For young children's birthday parties, balloons can make a colorful and exciting centerpiece. One idea is to get a bunch of balloons filled with helium, and tie them together. Then, attach them to the center of the table by placing weighted objects on top of the balloon strings. Keep the strings trimmed on the short side, so that when the balloons rise from the helium they make the table look full. Another idea is to blow up different colored balloons yourself and leave the strings off. Then place them in a clear glass bowl to give the table more color.

Photos

Photos can be used as birthday centerpieces. Select a photo of the guest of honor that you know she would want to put on display. Make copies of the photo for as many photo centerpieces as you want to set up. The next thing you must do is decide on a frame. The frame should complement the theme of the birthday party. For an adult's birthday, you might select a more ornate frame in a shiny or brushed silver, whereas for a child's birthday party it might be more appropriate to select a colorful wooden or plastic frame. When you set out the photo continue to decorate the table with small votive candles around it. This helps to draw attention to the centerpiece.

Edible Centerpieces

Edible centerpieces are decorative and are also intended for guests to eat. A tall cupcake stand filled with attractive tiers of cupcakes makes a grand statement in the middle of a birthday table. You can make this yourself by purchasing a multi-tiered cupcake stand, baking the cupcakes and placing them onto the stand. Another edible centerpiece idea is to place glass jars of candy in the center of your tables. You might have a large jar filled with red licorice, a medium jar filled with blue lollipops and a smaller jar filled with jelly beans. The colorful assembly will attract your guests. When you set out jars of candy, include small scoopers so that guests can scoop out the candy they wish to eat.
