Instructions

How to Install a Butcherblock Countertop

    1

Allow the countertop to stabilize for several days. Though the custom top will have been sealed by the woodworker that made it, the humidity and temperature level in your home will affect the expansion and contraction of the wood.

    2

Put the 3/4 inch plywood surface in place and allow it to settle overnight, before beginning installation on the butcherblock top.

    3

Mark the top and bottom corners of the plywood surface with an X. Insert the lag bolts 1/4 of the way in with a washer between the bolt head and the plywood. Measure the placement of the bolts so you can pre-drill the butcherblock top.

    4

Drill the underside of the butcherblock top with a drill bit that's just a little smaller than the 1/4 inch lag bolts in each of the four corners.

    5

Put the butcherblock top in place, checking to make sure the holes you just drilled match up with the bolts in the plywood.

    6

Tighten the bolts into place. The bolts should be inserted about halfway into the butcherblock top and no more. Driving the bolts further into the top may cause it to crack, so verify you are using the correct bolts. The top is ready to use after the bolts have been inserted.
