Your car's interior may be in desperate need of a makeover. Spray paint can give the dash, the arm rests and any other plastic parts of your car a quick brilliant shine. Krylon Fusion for plastics claims to adhere to almost any surface, including PVC and all other plastics. For best results remove the parts before painting. Spray paint tends to drift and will stain the other parts of the interior.
Instructions
- 1
Remove the pieces you intend to paint from the car. Consult the owner's manual for instructions on how to remove the pieces. If you are unable to remove the plastic, cover any surfaces that you don't wish to paint with plastic sheeting and low-tack painter's tape.
2Clean the interior pieces with trisodium phosphate. Scrub the surface to remove all dirt and grime from the car's interior.
3Sand the pieces lightly with medium grit sandpaper; this will help create texture in the surface of the plastic to help adhere the paint. Wipe away the sanding dust with a damp rag.
4Shake the spray can to mix the paint thoroughly. Hold the spray paint 10 to 12 inches from the plastic. Depress the nozzle of the can and move in a steady back and forth motion. Slightly overlap each pass of the paint can. Apply a thin, even coat of paint. Let the paint dry for 10 to 15 minutes.
5Examine the paint job. Lightly sand any uneven areas or drip marks with fine grit sandpaper. Paint the plastic again using the same technique. Apply three to four total coats of paint. Let the paint cure for 48 hours before re-installing the interior pieces.
