Do It Yourself Floral Centerpiece Ideas

Do It Yourself Floral Centerpiece Ideas

A party without a centerpiece tends to look as if something is missing. Even a small arrangement of flowers placed in the center of the table provides the color and decoration that your guests are craving. Whether you're hosting a wedding or just a dinner party, you will find flower centerpiece ideas helpful. Do-it-yourself floral centerpiece ideas call for items from your local craft store.

Dried Floral Centerpieces

Dried flowers have a different look, feel and texture from fresh cut flowers. With dried flowers, you also have the option of adding scented oils to make the floral scent stronger. All you need for a centerpiece are dried flowers, a small tray and a candle. Use small silver trays or clear plastic trays, opting for something neutral. Place the candle in the tray, securing it to the tray with craft glue or a small amount of wax. Arrange the dried flower petals around the outside edges of the tray and add a few drops of oil, if you want a stronger fragrance.

Boxed Flowers

Boxed flower arrangements omit the stems and most of the greenery, leaving behind only the bright blossoms of the flowers. Use roses or another type of flower with a large and brightly colored blossom. Fill a plastic or other waterproof box with a few inches of water. Trim the flowers to the same length, leaving only a few inches of stem on the flower. Set the flowers inside the box, with the stem in the water and the blossom pointing to the sky. Fill the box completely with flowers, leaving no empty spots.

Bottled Centerpieces

For an elegant and classic look, use wine bottles or old glass bottles. Remove the labels from the bottles first, if you're worried about the labels detracting from the look of the flowers. Group five or six empty bottles in the center of the table and place a single flower in each bottle. Lightly press down on the flowers, making them lean over the sides of the bottles. Add water to the bottles, to keep the flowers fresh and to add weight, which keeps the bottles from falling over.

Floating Flowers

Place a large glass bowl in the center of each table and fill it with water. Add a few drops of food coloring, if you want a more colorful look. A few drops of blue food coloring tints the water, while still giving it a natural color. Scatter floating candles and a few flowers on top of the water. The candles reflect onto the water and the flowers add even more color. If you prefer, float flower petals rather than whole flowers in the centerpiece.
