Butcher block is a style where wood planks are glued together to make countertops, tables and other furniture. The planks are glued so the wood fibers are lying perpendicular to the top surface of the countertop. A butcher block is made out of many different types of wood, and the wood can be glued together in varying thicknesses. It's very sturdy and can be refinished many times, depending on the thickness of the wooden planks. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
- 1
Lay the wide edges of the wood strips side by side on a table or flat surface. Wood strips for butcher blocks are cut in 1-inch by 2-inch strips. The 2-inch sides will be glued together.
2Apply a layer of FDA-approved wood glue to the center of the strips.
3Clamp the strips together with wood clamps. Cover the wood with wax paper before clamping the boards to avoid scratching or damaging the wood.
4Wipe away any excess wood glue and allow the boards to dry for at least 24 hours before removing the clamps.
