Acrylic resin is a hard, thermoplastic polymer coating that protects the surface of a table from damage. Resins penetrate wood to enhance the look of the grain, as well. The acrylic resin coating is the last overcoat you add to a piece of furniture. Painting and decorative items should be in place before you apply an acrylic resin. Once you are ready, adding the resin should take just a few minutes. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
- 1
Wipe the surface of the table off to remove any dust or debris. If you have been sanding, use a vacuum cleaner and the brush attachment to clear off sanding dust. Anything left on the table surface will become permanent once the resin is in place. The table surface should be thoroughly dry before doing the overcoat.
2Lay down a tarp or newspaper on the floor to catch any resin that drips off the table.
3Mix the resin compound, if necessary; some come premixed. Read the instructions with the product for proper preparation of the acrylic material.
4Pour a small amount of the resin onto the center of the table. Use a brush made for acrylic resin or a scraper to pull the compound from the middle and move it to the table edges.
5Spread out the resin until you cover the entire surface of the table. Wipe off any excess resin the runs over the table edge so it does not dry in a glob. Allow the resin overcoat to dry thoroughly. The amount of time will vary. Refer to the product information for drying times.
