Centerpiece Decorations Ideas

A decorative centerpiece on a table makes the room feel stylish and complete. Floral arrangements are always beautiful, but there are so many other choices. Centerpiece decoration ideas don't have to be intricate or difficult to create. Sometimes the simplest of ideas are the most unique and appealing. Does this Spark an idea?

Clear Glass Containers

Choose a glass container that is clear and tall, like a hurricane glass or wide and round like a fish bowl. Fill it with interesting items like candy, such as M&Ms, jellybeans or lemon drops for a playful atmosphere. Florist marbles or polished stone at the bottom of a clear bowl filled with water can hold floating tea lights for a dramatic party or romantic evening for two. Fill them with pine cones, unshelled nuts, round colored ornaments or jingle bells for the holiday season.

Fill a clear container with common foods. Green apples, red peppers and lemons all make a simple, yet bright centerpiece. Let your centerpiece be your dessert. Layer different sliced fruits, such as strawberries, pineapple, peaches, grapes and apples for a beautiful array of colors. When it's time for dessert, bring bowls and whipped cream to the table to serve with the fruit.

Float tea lights in a water filled glass bowl. Weight down something interesting and colorful at the bottom, such as red berries or silk flowers. Use fishing weights attached with clear fishing line tied to the focal point of the centerpiece. Colored stones or florist marbles can also be used at the bottom of this type of arrangement.

Pillar candles are always beautiful in centerpieces. Add them to a clear container and you have a simple, but elegant centerpiece. Choose a filler that matches your dcor or celebratory occasion, such as a dried beans and lentil mix, candy corn, cranberries, coffee beans or diamond shaped crystals (see Resources).

Framing

Frame your centerpiece decoration on a bed of confetti scattered beneath. Purchase this ready made at arts and craft stores and florists or make your own with a decorative paper punch and scrapbook paper. For an elegant look choose a lace or linen table runner that will complete the table-scape. Mirrors can be purchased, in squares of varying sizes, at home improvement stores. Place one under a clear glass container. This offers a lovely reflective quality to your table. Bamboo mats and ceramic tiles can also be placed beneath your centerpiece for a look of completion.
