An attractive centerpiece not only provides an eye-catching decoration for a baby shower, it sets the tone for the celebration. From a simple floral bouquet to an elaborate cake sculpture, any store-bought centerpiece can work. However, creating the centerpiece yourself adds a personal, not to mention budget-friendly, touch to the decoration.
Diaper Cake
A diaper cake is a versatile centerpiece you can decorate to suit any theme. The basic cake consists of rolled diapers positioned vertically to stand tall. The diapers form a large circle for the bottom tier of the cake, a medium circle for the middle tier and a small circle for the top tier. A thick ribbon ties around the sides of each tier to keep the circle-shapes secure. Ribbons, bows, miniature faux flowers, miniature teddy bears and miniature bottles can decorate the top of each tier to give the cake a festive look.
Lollipop Topiary
Use colorful lollipops to create a baby shower centerpiece that doubles as a sweet snack for the guests. A topiary form consisting of a foam pot-shaped bottom, wooden dowel "trunk" and foam ball top provides a base for the creation. Pink and blue lollipops cover the foam ball to create a dotted pattern. A thin yellow ribbon wrapped around the topiary trunk breaks up the colors with a cheerful accent. The topiary bottom can slide inside any decorative plant pot and pink and/or blue stones can cover up the foam.
Sock Rose Bouquet
Turn new socks for the newborn into roses to create a floral centerpiece for a baby shower. Each rose consists of one rolled and tucked baby sock secured to a thick floral wire with green floral tape. Ferns and baby's breath form filler to give the bouquet a lush look. Any vase can serve as a base for the delicate arrangement.
Teddy Bear
An overstuffed teddy bear wearing assorted baby items and holding a balloon bouquet not only looks attractive, it can serve as a gift for the baby shower. A bonnet, bib and booties on the bear give the animal an instant infant look. Baby-themed helium balloons tied to the bear's hands add color and height to the creation.
Giant Rag Bouquet
Use burp rags and washcloths to create a baby shower centerpiece with a bold and colorful style. Each flower consists of five tightly rolled washcloth or rag "petals" tied together at the bottom with a ribbon. Each petal cluster secures to a green wooden dowel to form a giant flower. The flowers form a round bouquet that work with any large and weighted vase.
Giant Bottle
Ask other baby shower guests to chip in on a giant bottle centerpiece filled with items for the infant if you want to create an impressive decoration. A giant, plastic, novelty baby bottle with a large bow tied around the neck can serve as a base for the centerpiece. Items inside the bottle can include burp rags, washcloths, towels, diapers, clothes, grooming set, rattles, blankets and wipes.
