How to Condition Butcher-Block Tables

Butcher-block tables are wooden kitchen tables that can double as cutting surfaces. These tables come in a variety of styles and finishes, and many are covered with a natural, food-safe finish.     Sand the entire top surface of the butcher-block table with fine-grit sandpaper. Wipe the surface with a clean cloth to remove any wood debris.

    Rub a food-safe mineral oil or paste on the top surface of your butcher-block table. There are many different types of food-safe wood oils and pastes on the market. Opt for one that is made from natural ingredients, such as bee's wax oil, to ensure a safe and smooth finish.

    Allow the oil or paste to soak into your butcher-block tabletop for approximately 20 minutes.

    Buff the surface with a clean cloth. After buffing, your butcher-block table should have a glossy, renewed look.

    Repeat the process once every six months to a year, depending on how often you use the table. The more often you use it, the more frequently you may want to rejuvenate the table by reconditioning its surface.
